Digital creates the perfect storm for counterfeit goods

The fast-growing digital world has seen the counterfeit market flourish, with luxury brands in particular targeted.

The counterfeit marketplace is booming as rogue websites, online marketplaces, social media channels and mobile apps provide readily-available anonymous channels for counterfeiters to do business in. Cost and convience drive the online counterfeit market in consumer electronics, apparel,  accessories and food and drink. Luxury goods are particularly targeted as counterfeiters can make big margins on sales and consumers look for bargains, says David Franklin, Global Director of Brand Protection at CSC. The Luxury Law Summit will look at the impact on online counterfeiting -from brand-damaging to life-threatening as well as the threats to luxury brands and consumers.
