FCA staffs up to deal with legal challenges of Brexit

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has hired additional legal and general staff to beef up resources in the face of Brexit

The authority’s annual report showed that the regulator has made 987 appointments through a combination of 560 internal moves and 427 external hires. Andrew Bailey told the regulator's Annual Public Meeting that the repeal legislation had proved the most work with ‘thousands of pages of EU legislation and rules to work out how they can operate in future in the UK’. He also highlighted the fact that deadlines were ‘tight’ with the UK and European Union having until the end of March 2019 to agree Brexit terms.
