Hong Kong-based CK Hutchingson Holdings general counsel Edith Shih says an inhouse life is not an easier one. Having just completed a company reorganisation, she said that many of the lawyers slept three or four hours a day. The reorganisation saw Hutchinson Whampoa merge with Cheung Kong Group to form CK Hutchingson Holdings and be reincorporated in the Cayman Islands.

Career path

In the article, published on ACC's website, Ms Shih, who looks after the legal, regulatory and compliance issues for the company, said that she had come across many lawyers in law firms who wanted to go inhouse '...but if they think that's a way to find an easier life style, then my company is the wrong place to go.' She said the company fostered  'a great career path for lawyers who want to stay with us, and many of our lawyers have been here for 15 or 20 years. Lawyers can easily move from one company subsidiary to another one. There's a lot of opportunity for those who are willing.' Source: ACC
