Luxury law sets the agenda for New York summit

As the luxury business is a buzz with the Michael Kors $2.1 billion acquisition of Versace, general counsel get on the agenda.

General counsel are prominent on the agenda amongst the luxury leaders and lawyers meeting in New York next month.The working agenda has been published for the Luxury Law New York meeting next month. The full agenda can be found here featuring luxury leaders such as US Moet Hennessy CEO Jim Clerkin, luxury dealmaker Rick Perkal, CEO, Firelight, assistant GC Jeffrey Hellman of PVH Corp, Estee Lauder senior counsel Lindsay Shain, Louis Vuitton's Kelly Koyama and Barneys GC Grace Fu. Some of the biggest designers in the industry will also get together to talk about entrepreneurship and the challenges of business including Steven Alan, Peter Som, Ruthie Davis and Simon Spurr.

Disruptive world

The event will be co-chaired by Barbara Kolsun, professor of fashion law and director of Cardozo’s FAME (Fashion Arts Media and Entertainment) programme and Frederick Mostert, chair of the digital communications centre at Kings College in London and former chief intellectual property counsel and chief legal counsel of luxury group Richemont. Luxury global trends in a disruptive world will be highlighted, which includes a look at robotics and AI, cybercrisis and security, sustainability and how the business of luxury is interacting with the world of technology. The issues of design protection in luxury goods and the anti-counterfeiting wars will come under the microscope.
