Sedgwick is facing the loss of a total of 15 partners and 25 additional lawyers from the end of this month. One group, comprising of six partners and 11 extra lawyers and led by Sedgwick’s chair emeritus Michael Tanenbaum, head of complex litigation James Keale and New Jersey managing partner Thomas Robertson, are leaving to launch a new litigation boutique named Tanenbaum Keale LLP. The other nine partners and 23 lawyers are moving out as part of a team hire to Drinker, Biddle & Reath, launching the firm’s first ever office in Dallas.

The moves leave Sedgwick’s offices in New Jersey and Dallas significantly depleted. The firm’s chairman Michael Healy has reassured clients that the firm is willing and ‘well positioned’ to replenish both offices with new talent in the coming year. The team leaving the firm for Drinker in Dallas comprises predominantly of specialists in product liability, insurance coverage, class actions, business disputes and commercial litigation.
