According to a report by the Houston Chronicle, there has been a delay of almost three years in Halliburton’s turning over of the samples.
Lawyers for BP and Alabama told US District Judge Carl Barbier of New Orleans – who is currently hearing the on-going civil action involved with the spill - that they will file motions for sanctions today.
The report claims that sanctions could involve preventing Houston-based Halliburton from using certain types of defence at the trial, which may then cause problems for the company to challenge a finding of gross negligence.
