'Conflict of interest' queries raised over GM hiring of law firms
The appointment of two law firms - King & Spalding and Jenner & Block - to investigate GM's recall of certain cars could raise 'conflict of interest' issues, says a professor.

Both law firms have worked with General Motors before. Professor Monroe Freedman, a legal ethics expert at Hofstra University School of Law, said: ‘To me, there's a conflict of interest. A reasonable person might question whether the firm wants to curry favor with GM, so it can maintain a good relationship or obtain future work.’ King & Spalding has acted for GM on some of its bankruptcy issues while Jenner & Block has been associated with GM for 12 years.
