Cuatrecasas team defects to Pérez-Llorca

Spanish firm Cuatrecasas has lost a high profile team to its competitors Pérez-Llorca.

The Spanish firm saw the departure of  Javier Carvajal, Alfredo Lafita and Pedro Fernández from its corporate department. All three have been hired by rival Spanish heavyweight Pérez-Llorca. Mr Carvajal has more than 15-years’ experience working on takeover bids, M&A transactions, corporate restructurings, joint ventures and public offerings. Last year, he was recognised by Best Lawyers as venture capital ‘Lawyer of the Year’ in Madrid, and in 2009 was listed as one of the top ’40 under 40’ lawyers on the Iberian Peninsula. His colleague Mr Lafita is also experienced in M&A, joint ventures, corporate restructurings and private equity transactions, while Mr Fernández has particular experience advising startup companies and venture capitalists in investment rounds.

Continued growth

Additionally, litigation and arbitration lawyer Mercedes Romero and banking and finance lawyer Ander Valverde have been promoted to Pérez-Llorca's partnership in their respective departments. The new partner cohort is significant, reflecting a near 35 per cent increase in the size of Pérez-Llorca’s existing 15-member partnership. Senior partner Pedro Pérez-Llorca commented: ‘The hiring of Javier Carvajal, Alfredo Lafita and Pedro Fernández, together with the promotions of Mercedes Romero and Ander Valverde to partner are fully in line with the growth that the firm has been experiencing in the last few years and will signify an important boost for the Corporate, Litigation and Arbitration and Banking & Finance practices of the firm.’
