The Debevoise practice in Hong Kong is led by a team of eight partners and international counsel, and includes 12 lawyers already admitted as Hong Kong Solicitors. The firm has been in Hong Kong for over 20 years, previously practicing as a foreign law firm registered with the Hong Kong Law Society. The change of status to a local firm means Debevoise will be able to provide local Hong Kong law advice in addition to the New York and English law advice it currently offers.

Long history

Debevoise has a long history in Asia, and its Hong Kong and Shanghai offices have continued to grow in recent years. In 2013, the firm hired ex-General Electric Executive Counsel Andy Y. Soh as an international counsel in Hong Kong in  its commercial disputes and internal investigations practice. Earlier this year, the firm also hired Asia insurance lawyer Stuart J. Valentine as an international counsel in Hong Kong.
