Dentons launches tech lab with aim of transforming law practices

NextLaw Labs, the new Silicon Valley subsidiary of Dentons, is soon to announce an app built with a client which aims to manage risk by using field data collected by staff on their mobiles.

The NextLaw Lab is the brainchild of Joe Andrew, the Dentons global chair. He has worked closely with NextLaw CEO Dan Jansen, an entrepreneur who used to work at Boston Consulting Group. Mr Jansen said: 'The story begins inside Dentons. Their strategy is to grow, integrate and reinvent … I’m the reinvent part.'

Buy-in

Although it is a Dentons subsidiary, NextLaw is autonomous and has the freedom to raise money independently if it wants. Mr Jansen added: 'We’re going to have the largest law firm in the world to not only generate ideas, but also to test them.' With a team of 6,000 lawyers worldwide, Dentons believes it will be able to test ideas rapidly. A priority will be to develop products which have buy-in from Dentons partners. Source: Bloomberg
