Former employees sue Heenan Blaikie

Eight months after it failed, Canadian firm Heenan Blaikie is facing a raft of claims from former employees for wages outstanding and wrongful dismissal.

Patent agent Marcelo Sarkis is seeking Can$1m for wrongful dismissal. A non-equity partner, Rhonda Levy, is saying she is owed over $100,000. George Wesley Roberts, who worked on the consulting side, is seeking $250,000 in damages including wages, redundancy pay and accrued holiday pay. In Toronto, seven former legal assistants are claiming $1m between them. There are other claims.
