In-house lawyers start to search out revenue generators

Having traditionally focused on mitigating risk, general counsel are now starting to find ways to money for their employers, according to the head of Lexvoco, a recruitment agency for temporary in-house staff.

Anthony Wright, founder of Lexvoco, said: 'Lawyers are smart people, but often they become blinkered in their approach in protecting risk and saving legal costs.' But he said that some in-house counsel are thinking about how they can align the work of their teams with the overall aims of their employers.

Seat at the table

When they do start focusing on some revenue generation, he said, they improve their status and prospects. He said: 'It gives the in-house legal team a lot more credibility and goes to this concept of having a seat at the executive table.' Source: Lawyers Weekly
