Independent Scotland would have written constitution

A written constitution and its own Supreme Court would be two new legal features of an independent Scotland if the Scottish people vote for independence in 2014.

A white paper published by politicians supporting the move details these and other legal issues. 'The Inner House of the Court of Session and the High Court of Justiciary sitting as the Court of Criminal Appeal will collectively be Scotland's Supreme Court,' says the paper. In another part it says that 'a new written constitution will protect and enshrine our distinctive justice and legal systems to support the rule of law, human rights and a strong democracy'.
