Jones Day bills for US$17m as Detroit fees soar

Law firms and other professionals submitted bills of US$36m in Q4 of 2013 in the Detroit municipal bankruptcy as courtroom and other battles intensified.

Mayor Kevyn Orr was a partner in Jones Day before taking on the role. Jones Day is the leading law firm in the bankruptcy and submitted bills of US16.6m for fees in the quarter, alongside expense claims of $734,000. Dentons billed for US$4.4m. There are 16 professional firms which are submitting bills as the city argues that it should reduce its US18b debt mountain and restructure. Source: Detroit Free Press
