Consolidation in the insurance sector is creating a surge in M&A work in the Australian legal market that has been rippling out from in-house lawyers to their legal advisers.

Justin Coss, general counsel of AUB Group, said: 'The pace of consolidation continues to be strong. There's plenty of activity on the M&A side.' The current consolidation of the insurance industry is partly due to the fact that a soft phase in pricing of premiums is driving down the income that insurers receive per policy.
