Morgan Lewis has established a major Asia-Pacific hub through its link-up in Singapore.

Singapore: Asian deals are increasing leungchopan

Global law firm Morgan Lewis is on the march again with a new partnership in Singapore. The firm has combined forces with Stamford Law Corporation. The new firm is to be know as Morgan Lewis Stamford from 1 April. The move comes just months after Morgan Lewis acquired some 750 Bingham McCutchen lawyers and staff and creates a fully integrated law firm in Singapore with approximately 80 Stamford lawyers. Stamford Law is well-known for its  corporate, commercial, finance, and litigation work, providing advice to companies in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan, India, and across Southeast Asia.

Regional gateway

'We are delighted that this talented group of lawyers—who share our client-focused approach and global perspective—is joining our firm,' Morgan Lewis chair Jami McKeon said. 'Singapore is a vibrant and critical business hub that serves as a regional gateway to the broader Asian market. Combining with Stamford Law gives us immediate strength in the region to support the business needs of our multinational clients. It also brings us closer to our increasing number of clients based there.'

True integration

'We found a perfect partner in Morgan Lewis,' said Suet-Fern Lee, Senior Director of Stamford Law who will continue to lead the Singapore office as managing partner. 'This combination is unprecedented in extent and structure, and it represents a true integration between a Singapore-based premier law practice with an established and entrenched presence in the Asia region, and a global legal powerhouse. It allows us to undertake much larger, more complex and in-depth cross-border legal transactions for many of the largest and most dynamic global corporations.'

Arbitration

Stamford’s lawyers provide legal services in corporate, mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance, and capital markets transactions. The group also focuses on arbitrations before international bodies such as the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Laws, and the London Court of International Arbitration.
