Skadden and Davis Polk top Q1 global M&A rankings

The US leads the top 10 - taking six places but Canada is also represented through Stikeman Elliott and Australia gets a place through Allens while two London-based firms - Freshfields and Linklaters - are potentially well-placed.

Skadden comes first in the Thomson Reuters tables, having done deals worth US$162b, followed by Polk Davis & Wardwell ($104b) and then Freshfields ($98b). The next three firms are all from the US - Latham & Watkins ($96b), Sullivan & Cromwell ($73b) and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett ($72b). The final positions are taken by Linklaters, 7th ($58b), Watchtel Lipton Rosen & Katz ($57.7b), Allens ($54b) and Stikeman Elliott ($47b). While Linklaters is placed only 7th and Allens is 9th, they would have come 2nd ($112b) if they had consolidated their exclusive alliance.
