Sony hacker jailed for a year

A member of the notorious Lulzsec hacking group has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to an attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Sony: targeted by hackers last year

Cody Kretsinger, 25, pleaded guilty last April to the attack which Sony claim caused more than $600,000 (£392,000) in damages after a database containing customers' names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses was breached.
The BBC reports that a Los Angeles judge ruled Kretsinger will be required to do 1,000 hours of community service when his jail term is completed.

Attacks

The news follows guilty pleas from Lulzsec members in the UK last week.
In London, Ryan Ackroyd, 26, admitted to being part of the group that targeted the NHS and the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency. He will be sentenced next month along with Mustafa Al-Bassam, 18, Jake Davis, 20, and Ryan Cleary, 21.
