Three law firms seek fees from American Apparel

Embattled clothing manufacturer American Apparel owes nearly US$6m to Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom ($3.8m), White & Case ($1.4m) and Paul Hastings ($700,000) for legal services.

All three firms have represented the company in legal disputes with its controversial founder Dov Charney. Jones Day has been chosen to represent the company in the bankruptcy. American Apparel filed for court protection at the beginning of this week and won rapid court approval to tap into loans of as much as $90m while it attempts to reorganise its finances.  The company employs about 8,500 people at its stores and factories, with about 7,000 in the US.
