US law firms spend millions on business development

Some 42 per cent of firms are spending between $5m and $10m on staff, resources and technology in the business development area, according to a report from LAC Group, a library outsourcer.

LAC Group surveyed 16 AmLaw 200 firms. The findings of the report, 'Teamwork on the Legal Frontline – The Strategic New Roles of Marketing and the Library in Big Law', also suggest that 80 per cent of firm librarians saw their research workload rise over the last three years, while staffing decreased.
