Leading litigation law firm Winston & Strawn has made US$20m from its e-discovery service in 2013, its third year of running the facility.

E-discovery has earned one law firm US$20 million Orhan Carn

Winston & Strawn - which earns 55 per cent of its turnover from litigation - is very unusual in setting up this capability in-house. Many large firms use the outside services of organisations such as Kroll and FTI. This year the firm has also started offering the service to other law firms.

Growth to continue

The main cost of litigation comes in the discovery process, says John Rosenthal, head of the practice. He estimates that 60 per cent of costs come within discovery. He said: ‘We’re getting hired to just do the e-discovery and work with other law firms to handle the substance. For us, I think the growth will continue for quite a while.’ Source: Washington Post
