Richard Gerstein, Mishcon de Reya partner and Professional Negligence Team head, who represented the oligarch, said: 'The UK courts are a popular jurisdiction in which to bring claims because judgments can be enforced in other jurisdictions relatively easily. If parties choose to have their relationships governed by English law, the courts will respect their wishes. But just because a claimant thinks the best form of justice is in the UK doesn't mean they should be able to use English courts.'
