Alexander Borovik will head the legal arm of Akamai Technologies’ EMEA.  Borovik is moving to Akamai from a central role as Microsoft Russia’s chief public sector lawyer.  Source: The Lawyer

Richard Nicolaides, a name partner at the Chicago firm Bates Carey Nicolaides, broke away from the firm along with 28 other lawyers.  The new firm will be called Nicolaides Fink Thorpe Michaelides Sullivan.  Both practises specialize in commercial insurance, and American International Group Inc. was one client to go over to Nicolaides.  Source: ABA Journal

Last week, Honolulu shipping company Matson Inc. announced that chief legal officer Kevin O’Rourke will retire after 21 years.  Peter Heilmann, currently Matson’s vice president and deputy general counsel, will replace O’Rourke.  Source: ABA Journal

At the end of the month, global security company Northrop Grunman will appoint Don J. Chavez to vice president, associate general counsel, and sector counsel for its technical services sector.  Chavez has worked at Northrop since 1991.  Source: Financial News

Oceaneering International Inc., a global oilfield provider of engineered products and services, promoted David K. Lawrence to senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary.  Lawrence joined Oceaneering in 2005.  He has 20 years’ experience as a lawyer in the oilfield goods and services industry.  Source: Oil & Gas Financial Journal
