International law firm network Lex Mundi has launched a comparative international online guide to climate change law.

Work on the Global Climate Change Law guide, which covers 30 jurisdictions, was spearheaded by Houthoff, the Lex Mundi member firm for The Netherlands.

Topics it covers include greenhouse gas emission trading schemes, energy efficiency measures and prominent litigation cases.

Countries covered by the guide include the US, Canada, Mexico, Finland, Poland, Russia, the UK and South Africa.

The contributing law firms include Italian leader Chiomenti, Spain’s Uría Menéndez,Rajah & Tann Singpore and Russian firm Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners.

Lex Mundi business development manager Lauren Smith said the guide would be regularly updated with new jurisdictions and legal updates.

The initiative is the latest of a slew of climate change-related developments within the legal sector.

In December, Allen & Overy (A&O) published the results of a survey of company directors that found 40% of respondents were either ‘worried’ or ‘extremely worried’ about the potential for climate change to impact their business operations. 

Meanwhile, both Ashurst and Baker McKenzie have appointed partners to head up global climate change teams.
