SPB takes international arbitration head from K&L Gates

Squire Patton Boggs has announced the appointment of international arbitration counsel Haig Oghigian to lead its international arbitration practice in Tokyo.

Mr Oghigian was previously Tokyo head of commercial disputes at K&L Gates and is a former co-chairman of Baker & McKenzie’s litigation and dispute resolution practice. He has served as counsel and arbitrator in over 100 matters and has extensive corporate experience in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors. A former Canadian diplomat in Japan, he will also work with the firm’s Public Policy Practice to assist clients with regulatory and government relations matters.

Arbitration in Asia

George von Mehren, global chair of Squire Patton Boggs’ International Dispute Resolution Practice, commented: ‘With an increasing emphasis in Asia on international arbitration, [Mr Oghigian] will complement our existing global strength and help drive our practice in this region, supporting our teams in Singapore, Seoul and Australia.’

Second senior Tokyo hire  

Mr Oghigian is the second senior appointment to be made by the firm in Tokyo recently, with the hire of the former general counsel for Sega and senior attorney at Microsoft Japan, cybersecurity partner Scott Warren, in July.
