Addressing the ABA (American Bar Association) in London, the QC said: 'The Magna Carta is one of Britain’s gifts to the world. Although only three of its clauses remain on our statutes, it is still a testament to the importance of the rule of law around the world.' She spoke about the way businesses use human rights law - and need to have it as a base if they are to operate with certainty and predictability. While the UK And the US might take the human rights legacy of the Magna Carta for granted, Ms Blair pointed to a country in Africa in which a client of hers was arrested on trumped-up charges. She said: 'We managed to get our client out [of jail], but it does show how in areas where the rule of law isn’t as fixed as it is in our countries, you really have to be quite adept and be able to negotiate the realities on the ground.'
