Mr Weimann joins Herbert Smith after several years at Clifford Chance, where he was head of the Dusseldorf arbitration and litigation practice. He is president of the Chinese European Legal Association and a board member of the Hamburg-based Chinese European Arbitration Centre. Michael Dietrich, competition, regulation and trade partner, is also moving with his team from Frankfurt to the new office.

Europe's strongest economy

Dusseldorf will be the third office for Herbert Smith in Germany, along with those in Berlin and Frankfurt. Mark Rigotti, joint CEO of the firm, said: 'As Europe's largest and strongest economy, Germany is naturally a key market for the firm, especially in light of our strategy to grow our EMEA platform, which will be further strengthened by our forthcoming office opening in Johannesburg.'
