Legal chatbot expands to cover 1000 areas of law

Law firms have no incentive to innovate, the legal chatbot founder of DoNotPay claims as he launches his latest idea.

The legal chatbot which started out as a tool to challenge traffic tickets is expanding its remit to cover nearly one thousand additional legal areas. DoNotPay, set up by Joshua Browder,  has overturned 375,000 parking tickets to date but will now cover areas from consumer rights, divorce  and employment law to landlord-tenant disputes. The chatbox asks a series of questions about the legal issue in question and then produces a letter which can be sent to the appropriate authority.

No incentive to innovate

Mr Browder, who is a 20 year old Stanford student, unveiled the latest update on Medium to DoNotPay. He is introducing a service allowing anyone to create their own legal chatbots for free and with no technical knowledge required. He says he created this as law firms have no incentive to innovate, most partners are old and will retire soon and it is difficult to finance innovation at law firms.
