Commercial and civil disputes are central to Maciej Durbas’ practice, where he helps clients minimise risk and work out favourable solutions, both in the courtroom and during negotiations or mediation. He represents parties in complex international proceedings and sits as an arbitrator. He has experience in proceedings under almost all arbitration rules in Poland and several significant arbitration rules, including the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the SCC Arbitration Institute, the Finland Arbitration Institute, UNCITRAL, and ad hoc arbitration. Maciej Durbas is included in the lists of recommended arbitrators of arbitration courts in Poland, Armenia, and Serbia. He co-authored the new arbitration rules of the Lewiatan Arbitration Court, where he sits on the Arbitration Committee.
In addition to dispute resolution, he also conducts internal investigations and audits and advises on asset tracing and asset recovery.
Maciej Durbas is a Doctor of Jurisprudence (Jagiellonian University, 2021) and defended his dissertation “Deciding on jurisdiction of arbitral tribunals” with honours. He completed an LLM programme with honours at the University of Vienna and the City University of Hong Kong, as well as the ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy for CEE and the SCC Diploma Course. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London, and regularly publishes articles and speaks at industry conferences.
