Matt is the co-founder of LFM’s Sydney office and helps clients successfully resolve their most important and complex commercial disputes, often with a cross-border element. He is retained by businesses, directors, investors and global law firms to conduct litigation before Australian courts and arbitrations across the Asia-Pacific region. Matt’s experience as a United States litigator and in legal finance (having previously run the Australian operations of the world’s largest legal finance company) shape the independent and commercial representation he provides to clients.

Matt has worked with businesses and individuals from across the globe on “bet-the-company” litigation and arbitration involving complex financial products; mergers and acquisition-related disputes; structured finance litigation; creditor, loan and financing disputes; foreign investment disputes; legal disputes over mining, resources, energy, commodities, renewables, infrastructure and construction projects; shareholder disputes; insurance; data privacy; real estate; technology and intellectual property; business torts and directors’ duties; award/judgment enforcement campaigns and asset recovery matters; and insolvency disputes. Matt also has experience advising government clients on regulatory matters, litigation and appellate work, including before Australia’s High Court.

Matt is recognised for his expertise in legal finance, transnational dispute resolution, and constitutional law. Matt is a Fellow of CIArb and ACICA, a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Law School, a Fellow at the Law Foundation of SA, has taught courses at NYU and Adelaide Law School, and his thought leadership has been published in books, articles and speaking engagements.
