Matthew D. Witsman is an associate and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, based in the firm’s Chicago office, where he is a member of the firm’s Trademark, Copyright & Advertising Counseling Practice. Matt’s practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property law including trademark and copyright prosecution, enforcement and portfolio management as well as both domestic and global trademark clearance. Matt regularly represents clients in adversary proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and in Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution (UDRP) proceedings and has litigation experience through his work in trademark disputes in federal district courts across the United States. Matt also advises clients on technology and IP licensing agreements, implementing promotional sweepstakes and contests campaigns, and compliance with National Advertising Division (NAD) guidelines and assisting in NAD proceedings. Before joining Foley, Matt worked as a trademark associate at a law firm in Chicago that focused in trademark law. He represented companies in trademark, trade dress, domain name, and copyright matters across a wide range of industries including the global financial services, travel, technology, golf and medical industries. Matt was also the lead associate in a trademark infringement and unfair competition federal court dispute that resulted in a +$15M judgment in his client’s favor.
