Mr. Thierry Bériault is a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators, a chartered mediator with the ADR Institute of Canada, and a lawyer. Since 2005, he has conducted over 850 mediations in both the private and public sectors, specializing in complex, multiparty commercial and organizational disputes. These cases often involve significant relational, financial and political issues. A recognized expert in mediation processes, Mr. Bériault teaches at the Master’s program in Dispute Prevention and Resolution at the University of Sherbrooke (Québec), University Paris II Panthéon-Assas (France), and the University of Mons (Belgium). He also trains mediators in Canada, Europe, and Africa. Mr. Bériault regularly advises private companies and public institutions on strategies and best practices to manage risks associated with commercial and organizational disputes. His expertise includes the development and implementation of integrated dispute prevention and resolution systems. He has chaired the ADR Institute of Canada, representing over 3,000 mediators and arbitrators, as well as the Institut de médiation et d’arbitrage du Québec. He co-founded the Institut de médiation dans l’espace francophone, based in Brussels (Belgium), and the Association francophone internationale de médiation (AFIM), headquartered in Geneva (Switzerland). He currently serves as Secretary General of the Mediation & Conflict Management Commission of the International Association of Lawyers. In 2011, the Lieutenant Governor of Québec awarded him the Honourable Mention of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, one of Canada’s five national orders. In 2022, the ADR Institute of Canada presented him with the Lionel J. McGowan Excellence Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development and promotion of alternative dispute resolution methods. Recognized by Who’s Who Legal as one of the global and Canadian leaders in commercial mediation, Mr Bériault continues to be a prominent figure in his field.
