A&O makes sub-Sahara first through Jo'burg office

Allen & Overy is to become the first Magic Circle practice to open its own office in sub-Saharan Africa when a six-lawyer team will set up a Johannesburg office for the firm this month.

The team comes from Bowman Giffilan, a South African based practice, and includes Bowman’s finance head, Lionel Shawe. Wim Dejonghe, global managing partner of A&O, said: ‘Johannesburg has become a key hub for local and international banks, development institutions, institutional investors and funds looking at investment and finance opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa.’ Source: Financial Times
