Experts on competition are closely watching the merger procedures of the two companies which, if they are allowed to proceed, will create the world's largest advertising agency. But the merger would have to clear anti-trust processes in four continents. When announcing the plan, leaders of the two companies said they did not expect to find regulatory hitches - but lawyers are not so sure.
A deal too many
Allen Grunes of GeyerGorey LLP in Washington told Bloomberg: 'I don’t see an effective efficiencies theory and if there are complainants they may come up with an effective theory of harm. I don’t see this being solved by divestitures either, so all of this makes me say this may be one deal too many.'
