Led by partner Yitai Hu, the office is expecting to focus on advising Chinese clients on cross-border issues, in particular on federal and state IP law in the US, including patent disputes. Mr Hu has particular experience of the semiconductor sector and other high-tech technologies.

Chinese clients

Alston & Bird managing partner Richard Hays says that the office opening formalises a presence around practices that the firm has already got in place. He said: 'For many years, we have assisted a number of Chinese clients in the United States across a broad range of services, including intellectual property disputes, products liability litigation, cross-border M&A and international tax matters.'
