Former Barclays deputy general counsel Michael Shaw has been named as the new legal chief for the Royal Bank of Scotland. Mr Shaw's appointment follows a three-month search for a successor for former RBS general counsel John Collins who stepped down in December. Mr Collins left RBS after less than 12 months at the helm to become the director of legal, compliance and regulatory affairs at Santander UK.
Meanwhile, Paddy Power and Betfair have announced that the former's general counsel, Ed Traynor, will continue to head up the gambling companies' legal function following their merger. Mr Traynor will continue to work out of Paddy Power's Dublin headquarters, where legal operations for the merged company will be based going forward. As a result of the decision, Betfair's London-based chief legal officer Fiona Russell will be leaving the group. Her next destination is as yet unknown.
New Zealand's Auckland International Airport has scooped up Scott Weenink as its new general counsel and company secretary. Mr Weenink is exiting Qatari telecommunications giant Ooredoo Asia to take up his new position at Auckland International Airport and replaces Charles Spillane, who stepped down from the GC role last August after 13 years with the company. Auckland International Airport is New Zealand's largest listed company.
Participant Media has promoted Gabriel Brakin to the role of GC and executive vice president, Business Affairs. After joining the film and television production company in 2008, Mr Brakin has most recently served as Participant's EVP, Business and Legal Affairs.
Finally, William Farran has stepped down as senior vice president, chief legal officer and company secretary of phosphate specialist Innophos after 29 years with the company. The company's general counsel for specialty ingredients and nutrition, Joshua Horenstein, will serve as acting CLO until a permanent replacement for Mr Farran is found.
