UPS has named Norman J. Brothers as its new general counsel and corporate secretary. Mr Brothers joined the global logistics firm in 2000 and most recently occupied the role of vice president and deputy general counsel. A statement from UPS chief executive officer David Abney announcing the promotion praised Mr Brothers' 'diverse' legal background, which includes time spent practicing with law firm King & Spalding and a stint as a military prosecutor in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps.

Meanwhile, Kratos Defence & Security Solutions has announced that current acting general counsel Marie Mendoza will permanently assume the role of vice president and general counsel. Ms Mendoza has worked as a senior attorney for Kratos, a leading National Security Solutions provider, for four years. Prior to joining the company, Ms Mendoza was a partner at San Diego-based law firm GCR and California-based Burke, Williams and Sorensen.

Wellmont Health Systems has promoted Gary Miller to the position of vice president and general counsel. Mr Miller has worked in Wellmont's legal teams for 14 years, most recently holding the role of senior vice president for legal affairs and general counsel. Prior to coming in-house, Mr Miller practiced health care, commercial and employment law with several law firms. A statement from Wellmont announcing Mr Miller's promotion praised the role he has played in helping the company 'comply with the vast array of health care regulations.'

Noven Pharmaceuticals is the latest company to promote its general counsel to the helm. Jeff Mihm, previously vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel, became Noven's new chief executive officer on 1 January. A statement from Noven's chairman, Dr Naruhito Higo, suggests that Mr Mihm has established himself as a 'results-orientated senior leader' with considerable business acumen, able to contribute creative and critical insights across 'almost every function' within the company. Michael Greene, formerly Noven's deputy general counsel and executive director for alliance management, will succeed Mr Mihm in the role of vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
