Senior banking industry attorney Michael F. Coyne is joining Union Bank as senior executive vice president and general counsel for the bank and for its holding company UnionBanCal Corporation, according to MarketWatch. He will be based in San Francisco. His responsibilities will include legal support for UnionBanCal Corporation's board of directors; oversight of all corporate litigation and government affairs functions; legal oversight of mergers and acquisitions, regulatory matters, securities and credit transactions; and all of the bank's internal and external legal support.
Coyne has been at JP Morgan for 21 years, where from 2010 he was in charge of litigation and government investigation matters, according to Reuters.
The Girls Scouts of the USA has appointed its first ever general counsel - Jennifer Rochon, a litigator with a broad range of experience from complex contractual disputes to intellectual property. Ms Rochon takes up the post on 1 October, leaving New York-based Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel where she is currently a partner. 'As a third generation Girl Scout, this organization holds a special place in my personal family history,' she said, according to PR Newswire.
The Financial Times has confirmed that it has appointed Dan Guildford as general counsel, with effect from 5 August. He will run a team of 12 legal and compliance officers in bases in Belfast, London, Manila and New York. He joined the newspaper three years ago. One of his tasks has been to set up a legal team in Belfast to work on corporate content licensing, conferences and events. He had previously worked at Pinsent Masons and Dewey & LeBoeuf, according to Who's Who Legal.
Fletcher Building, the largest company in New Zealand's NZX 50 Index, has promoted its senior legal counsel, Charles Bolt, to take over from Martin Farrell, general counsel, who is leaving the organisation after 33 years. Mr Bolt is due to be appointed at the October annual shareholders' meeting. He will also take on the role of company secretary. He used to work at law firm Bell Gully, according to Scoop News.
