Northwestern University has promoted senior associate general counsel Priya Harjani to the role of deputy general counsel. Ms Harjani is herself a graduate of Northwestern's Pritzker School of Law who joined the university's in-house team in 2004 after a career in private practice with Chicago firm Gardner Carton & Douglas (now known as Drinker Biddle & Reath). She will assume her new position on March 1 and work under the leadership of Northwestern GC Phillip Harris.

Meanwhile, former News UK legal head Emma Moloney has been named as the new general counsel for Endemol Shine Group. Ms Moloney's appointment follows the merger of Endemol and Shine Group form a new joint venture of TV programs, including popular UK favourites Black Mirror and Broadchurch. She has previously served in legal roles at Sky and National Geographic Channel and become News UK's GC in May 2015, was named in The Lawyer's 'Hot 100' list earlier this year.

Former DWF managing partner Andrew Gregory is coming in-house to serve as the first ever in-house legal counsel for insolvency group Leonard Curtis Business Solutions. Mr Gregory has held a variety of roles over his 25 year career with DWF, including stints as managing partner and business restructuring head but most recently as a consultant. A qualified mediator, Mr Gregory worked with Leonard Curtis directors while at DWF. He will now help Leonard Curtis develop its insolvency offerings for both corporate and SME clients out of its Manchester office.

Former US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau general counsel Meredith Fuchs has joined Capital One as the company's financial services regulatory counsel and senior vice president. Ms Fuchs resigned from the CFPB in July 2015 but stayed on with the bureau until December, when current CFPB general counsel Mary McLeod was hired. At least 45 employees have reportedly left the CFPB for positions in the private sector since it opened in 2011.

Finally, Ant Financial Services Group has scooped up Simpson, Thacher & Barlett attorney Leiming Chen as its new global general counsel and senior vice president in charge of legal, compliance and risk management. Ant Financial is the finance arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. Mr Chen will oversee a team of 50 legal and compliance experts and will report directly to Ant Financial president Eric Jing. 'Leiming's track record as one of the leading lawyers in the Asia-Pacific Region speaks for itself and we are delighted to have secured someone of his stature to join Ant Financial at the important stage of our growth,' said chief executive Lucy Peng.
