UK company, The Monarch Group, has appointed Alison Wilds as head of of legal at the group. Alison joined Monarch in February 2014 to advise on contractual arrangements relating to the Monarch Airlines procurement of thirty new Boeing 737 Max8. Prior to joining the Monarch Group, Ms Wilds was a partner and head of the aviation and finance group at London law firm Harbottle and Lewis where she specialised in asset finance. In this newly created role Alison will lead the in-house legal team and external advisors on all legal matters relating to the Monarch group of companies and will report to Barry Nightingale, chief finance officer of the Monarch group.
Meanwhile, London Luton Airport has appointed its first inhouse counsel. Swati Paul joins the company from Transport For London. She will oversee legal services for airport operations including construction contracts, and related contracts for its current £100m redevelopment.
On-demand grocery delivery startup Instacart has recruited a new general counsel. Nikhil Shanbhag has joined the company from Google where he was head of its global competition group. Prior to Google, he was a fellow at the Georgetown Centre for National Security and the Law. At Georgetown he was involved with litigation related to Guantanamo Bay as well as other national security projects.
OCC, the world's largest equity derivatives clearing organisation, has made two senior legal appointments. Joseph Kamnik, currently the firm's vice president and chief regulatory counsel, becomes senior vice president and general counsel. Jean Cawley, senior vice president and deputy general counsel, and who had been serving as acting general counsel, has accepted the role of senior vice president and corporate secretary. In his previous role, Mr Kamnik was responsible for working with and effectuating OCC policies with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve in OCC's role as a SIFMU. He also was responsible for increasing OCC's level of engagement with international regulators. Mr Kamnik joined OCC in October 2014. Previously, Mr Kamnik worked as an associate for law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in Washington,DC.
International trust and corporate services provider, Equiom, has hired Tobi Mathews as an exclusive, in-house consultant to its yachting and aviation teams. Based at Equiom’s Jersey office, he will work with the teams to provide support across all aspects of Equiom’s services to their worldwide client base. Mr Mathews has over 25 years of experience as a lawyer, with specialist knowledge and expertise in structuring and management in the fields of aviation, shipping, intellectual property matters, private equity and hedge funds. He was a founding partner of Lovell Jackson Mathews (now Capita Trustees Limited).
