JP Morgan Chase & Co has promoted senior lawyer Stacey Friedman to become its general counsel. Ms Friedman succeeds  Stephen Cutler, a former regulator, who is moving into an advisory role. Mr Cutler was previously an enforcement chief at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Ms Friedman is ex-Sullivan & Cromwell where she worked from the late 1990s to 2012. Mr Cutler  will be appointed vice chairman of the bank, acting as a senior adviser to Chief Executive Jamie Dimon and also the board,

Global advisory firm AlixPartners has announced that Kathryn Koorenny has joined the firm as managing director and general counsel. Ms Koorenny will join the firm's senior leadership team and be based in AlixPartners' New York office. She succeeds John Collins, who is stepping down after eight years of service to pursue a career in academia. Ms Koorenny joins  from American Airlines, where she spent 20 years, most recently as associate general counsel, litigation and compliance with responsibility for  global commercial litigation and corporate compliance. Prior to joining American Airlines, Ms Koorenny worked as an lawyer in the litigation practice of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where she represented secured creditors, lessors, and Chapter 11 debtors.

In an unexpected move, Simon Davies, managing partner at Linklaters since 2008, will retire early to join Lloyds Banking Group from January in a newly created role as chief people, legal and strategy officer. He will  report to António Horta-Osório, the chief executive. He has a place on the executive board.  Commenting, António Horta-Osório said: 'This will be a key role for the group and with his extensive experience of managing and leading a major global business, I have no doubt Simon will prove to be an invaluable addition to the group and to our senior team.' Davies will leave Linklaters after two terms as global managing partner.  Kate Cheetham was promoted to general counsel of Lloyds two months ago. 

Pharma company Amgen has hired Johnathon Graham from manufacturer Danaher as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective July 13. Mr Graham will lead the company’s five-strong legal team and replace David Scott, who is retiring next month after 11 years in the role. He will report to Robert Bradway. Mr Graham was vice president and general counsel at Danaher for nine years and was responsible for all compliance, governance, legal, regulatory and risk matters. Prior to joining Danaher, he was vice president of litigation and legal policy at General Electric for two years and a partner at Williams & Connolly for 16 years. His replacement at Danaher has not yet been announced.
