Bakers plans joint venture in Shanghai free trade zone

Baker & McKenzie is planning to make a swift entry into the Shanghai free trade zone once permissions are in place through new regulations.

Many firms are expected to be planning a similar move, according to the firm’s Asia head, Winston Zee. He told Legal Week: ‘Once the regulations come out I can see that there will be a flood or wave of applications by international firms and we will be among those firms.’  The move will have to be made through a joint venture with a local firm. He said the firm had been looking at the zone very closely, crunching numbers and talking to people in a move to develop a game plan which made sense. Source: Legal Week
