Black lawyer count falls at top US firms

The number of black lawyers in the 250 US law firms has fallen for five years in a row, now reaching 3 per cent.

The statistics, for 2013, published in The American Lawyer, show that only 1.9 per cent of partners are black. In contrast, the numbers of blacks are growing in other professions and among general counsel.

By contrast, other ethnic groups are becoming better represented in the large law firms - with Asian-Americans, for example, reaching 6.3 per cent . White & Case leads the ethnic diversity lists, with minorities making up 27.5 per cent  of its lawyers and 21.8 per cent  of its partners. It is followed by Silicon Valley-based Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Los Angeles-based Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith. Source: New York Times
