The statistics, for 2013, published in The American Lawyer, show that only 1.9 per cent of partners are black. In contrast, the numbers of blacks are growing in other professions and among general counsel.

By contrast, other ethnic groups are becoming better represented in the large law firms - with Asian-Americans, for example, reaching 6.3 per cent . White & Case leads the ethnic diversity lists, with minorities making up 27.5 per cent of its lawyers and 21.8 per cent of its partners.
