Law firms in England and Wales will be able to own separate businesses, set up 'one-stop shops' for professional services as well as compete with alternative business structures - following proposed changes to the rules regulating solicitors.  The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has recommended removing restrictions forbidding law firms having links with outside businesses in a move to open up the  legal marketplace following a consultation earlier this year. The reforms will allow a greater range of activities to be undertaken by law firms and, if approved by the Legal Services Board, will be published in the SRA Handbook in November.
