The Law Society explained that the bill will 'encapsulate guidelines for Cayman-based law firms in providing Caymanians access to the legal profession, the training and development of Caymanian attorneys and the opportunities for career progression for Caymanian lawyers'.
Stark contrast to the UK
There are about 400 members of the Law Society. About 100 of them qualified since 2008, mainly in the larger local firms. Writing in Compass Cayman, the Society says: 'This is in stark contrast to countries such as the UK, Ireland and Canada where training opportunities dropped substantially over the same period.'
