Results reported this week show that Co-operative Legal Services recorded a pre-tax profit of £700,000 in 2015, recovering from a £5m loss in the previous year. Turnover was down year-on-year from £21m to £18m, though the company assured that the dip was 'in line with plans' to refocus its business on 'core service propositions'.
Customer satisfaction stayed relatively flat at 88 per cent, while the number of staff employed by The Co-Op's legal services division grew 5 per cent to 355 in the 12 months to January 2. This figure does not include a team of 100 wills, trusts and estate planning associates and support staff picked up through the company's acquisition of Collective Legal Services.
'We appointed new experienced heads of probate, family law and personal injury to strengthen the legal services management team, and help us to develop our services and improve member loyalty. When added to investments being made in digital technology, they'll help us to meet the needs and interest of our members across the UK,' said a Co-op statement.
