The merger concludes a long and complex process of integrating the two firms' operations and staff across Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Belarus. The resulting practice, which will operate under the name COBALT, will comprise 180 lawyers and attorneys in total: 50 in Latvia, 60 in Estonia, 65 in Lithuania and a smaller team of five in Belarus. The merger is more than just a growth strategy. According to COBALT Latvia managing partner Lauris Liepa, the decision to integrate the two firms also responds to the close business and trade relationships between the Baltic states and Belarus by creating a 'cross-border' legal practice that gathers 'the region's leading lawyers into one firm.'
