Corporate counsel must hone up financial skills

At an event organised by InsideCounsel.com, Sara Horvath, senior counsel at Whirlpool said that lawyers needed to develop business skills early on at a company so that they can be more of an asset to the lines of business they are responsible for. Nancy Crawford, assistant general counsel of Mutual of Omaha, advised in-house counsel to study their company’s financial statements whilst Melanie McIntire of ConAgra Foods pointed out that developing financial skills would help counsel to raise their profile throughout the company.
