European debt finance partner John Markland is joining Dechert from Kirkland & Ellis, while private equity partner Ross Allardice is leaving White & Case to join the firm. The pair are ex-colleagues, having worked together at Kirkland for nine years until 2013, when Mr Allardice departed for White & Case. Mr Markland, on the other hand, is leaving Kirkland after a 12-year career with the firm, which he first joined in 2004 from Weil Gotshal & Manges. Both partners officially joined Dechert’s London office yesterday (7 November).
Rounding out the team
Dechert has been on a hiring spree to its City office this year, with former DLA Piper finance heavyweights Philip Butler and David Miles also due to join the firm next month. However, Dechert chief executive Henry Nassau rejects the idea that building strength is a numbers game: ‘I don’t think of them as adding to the London office – they add to our private equity and leveraged finance practices. This is the purest private equity and leveraged finance team – they are rounding out what we are doing in London and bringing new clients.’
