The combinations with Cardenas & Cardenas in Colombia and Lopez Velarde, Heftye y Soria in Mexico will represent Dentons’ first physical offices in the Latin American region and bring the total number of countries where the global firm has a presence to 55. As per many Dentons tie-ups, the well-known local firms will retain their names for now while adding Dentons as a prefix, before eventually transitioning to Dentons in the future. Last year, Dentons regional CEO for Latin America Jorge Alers hinted that the flagship tie-ups in Colombia and Mexico will lay the groundwork for further Dentons’ mergers across the region. ‘Our hope is that [the mergers] will allow the market to recognise who Dentons is,’ he commented in December, when the combinations were first announced.
